This antique bit brace is stamped “BLUE GRASS No 338, B. H. & M. CO.” The specific "B. H. & M. Co." stamp combined with the “BLUE GRASS” line corresponds to contract manufacturing right after the turn of the century (around 1907–1909). B. H. & M. Co. stands for the Belknap Hardware and Manufacturing Company of Louisville, Kentucky, a major wholesale distributor that operated from 1840 until 1986. Blue Grass was Belknap's premier, top-of-the-line brand for high-quality heavy-duty tools. In excellent mechanical working condition with attractive vintage cosmetic appearance. Shows normal signs of age and previous use. The head and handle material is rosewood. The 12-inch measurement refers to the sweep size (the diameter of the crank's rotation).
