With over 76 years of life experience and a passion for woodworking, I’ve spent decades collecting, restoring, and working with antique hand tools, mostly hand planes . I'm an Army Vet. (1967-1969) and married with 2 children. I'm also a avid gardener. I have a degree in Forestry from S.I.U. although I only worked in the industry for 6 weeks. I'm retired from the coal mines and also the Post Office. I live in Southern Illinois near Carbondale. I love to hunt and fish. I live on 30 with a 9 acre strip mine lake in front of the house. My work shop includes a Delta Unisaw , a Grizzley 17" band saw and a DeWalt 735 planer. I have many hand planes including a very nice Stanley #2 type 7
Up for sale is a very rare Stanley 2" lever cap. What makes it rare is it has the Stanley Y trademark logo cast into it on the reverse of the lever cap. There are very few of these out there and this is the first one I have seen for sale. Another thing that makes it rare is that it would be type correct for a type 12 only as it has no Stanley on the front and the Y logo cast into the reverse. The casting logo is very faint as it is on the few other examples I have been able to find. Look closely at the pictures. This cap came off a Stanley #5 type 13 plane I got from an old collection. I believe this probably came from the factory with this older lever cap as Stanley was know for using up older part on newer model plane. Stanley had nothing do to with typing these planes, they were interested in prodution and using up their older stock.
