Retired Archaeologist now working for city of Lexington Engineering Dept. Have done carpenter and woodworking for a long time, just switched over to hand tools several years ago. But now my health has changed, I have no kids and if Gods will, I will be retiring and moving to Philippines in 2028. So I am slowly selling off tools (and other things) that I know I will not be hauling across the world.
Dunlap #3 sized Smoothing Plane made by Sargent (619) for Sears 1943-57. The number 3 in sharpie is just so I do not mix them up.
This plane looks like it's new, or at least used very little, very clean and still has oil on the iron, no I did not do that, I don't even oil my user planes.
The Craftsman and Dunlap #3 sized planes are longer then the Stanley #3 buy just a hair. The Craftsman and Dunlap #3 are the same length as a #4, but narrow like the #3. So think of them as a 4 1/4 size, but they where sold as a #3 size when new.
The 619 stamp shows this was made by Sargent for Sears, the 619 was used from 1943-1957, after 1957 Dunlap planes where made in Germany, then the line was discontinued altogether in 1964
This plane is from my "I am going to keep this one" shelf, I wanted at one time to have a set of each of the brands that Sears sold over the years, plus I prefer the Millers Falls planes over the Stanley's, other then the Stanley tote, I do like them better LOL...
My health is having issues, if I get it straightened out soon, we are planning to retire to the Philippines in 2028, I am not taking a lot of my tools, so they are going up for sale a few at a time. Plus, I need the money to eat at the food trucks, they are getting expensive! HaHa...
