With over 76 years of life experience and a passion for woodworking, I’ve spent decades collecting, restoring, and working with antique hand tools, mostly hand planes . I'm an Army Vet. (1967-1969) and married with 2 children. I'm also a avid gardener. I have a degree in Forestry from S.I.U. although I only worked in the industry for 6 weeks. I'm retired from the coal mines and also the Post Office. I live in Southern Illinois near Carbondale. I love to hunt and fish. I live on 30 with a 9 acre strip mine lake in front of the house. My work shop includes a Delta Unisaw , a Grizzley 17" band saw and a DeWalt 735 planer. I have many hand planes including a very nice Stanley #2 type 7
Up for sale is a nice Fulton #6 hand plane. This one has the corrugated sole and it is flat. The Japannig was shot on the plane when I got it so I stripped it off and re-Japanned using Stanleys recipe and baked it 5 time to set the Japanning. I also sharpened the iron and it is razor sharp. The tote and knob are made from rosewood. The tote has a nicely repaired crack in it and I have repaired the horn on the back of the tote. The knob has a repair the a large piece that must have popped out and was put back using some nails and it seams tight. After a lot of research I believe this plane was made by Stanley for Sears between 1913-1917. There are several things I base this on. The bed is an exact cope of the Stanley beds from a type 6,7, or 8 and I believe they were made from Stanley foundry casting and the same for the frog. The only differance is on the frog it has a unique lateral adj. lever with a 90 degree twist on the end, which Standley always did when making planes for other companys. Fulton planes were made exclusively for Sears and Roe Buck Co. Several companys made plane for Sears using the Fulton name. The main maker was Sargent tool, but Union also made some. Stanley made planes for Sears using the Fulton name from 1913-1917 and used their old bed castings from their type 6-8 period. Looks at the pictures for best description. Message me if you have any questions or if you have additional information on this plane. Thanks Buddy
