A decent Stanley No. 9 hickory square mallet. It has the number "9" on the top of the head (last photo) which is typical for these. This version only showed up in Stanley catalogues until 1929. The head is very secure to the handle, but a previous owner has wrapped the top of the handle with [what appears to be] grip tape to add friction to keep the head from flying off during use (it does its job). There is a small amount of damage, as well as some wear from use. It is a solid useable and collectible mallet for users and collectors of antique hand tools and antique stanley tools. The number 9 is the "medium" size for the square mallets, offered in sizes 8, 9, and 10 for the hickory versions. It is 12" long and weighs 1lb 11 ounces. The style most closely matches those shown in catalogues from 1908-1929.
